Dr. Tomoko Arimura
Dr. Arimura is a Clinical Psychologist who has expertise in working with children and their families to better understand and overcome a variety of challenges stemming from learning, emotional, and interpersonal difficulties. She works collaboratively with school teams and health professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to treatment. Dr. Arimura is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and her primary client groups include children, adolescents, parents and families. She completed her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). She has trained in a variety of clinical settings including community mental health agencies, private practice clinics, children’s hospitals, and school boards, providing diagnostic and learning assessments, consultation, and treatment services. Dr. Arimura offers individual child/adolescent therapy, family therapy, and parent/caregiver counselling and consultation. Her approach is tailored to client needs and employs strategies from evidence-based approaches including cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, emotion-focused and attachment-based therapies. Dr. Arimura has extensive training working with children and adolescents presenting with neurodevelopmental disorders (i.e., ADHD, ASD, and learning disorders), anxiety and mood disorders, developmental trauma and adjustment disorders, and parent-child relationship difficulties. In addition to her work at Archways, she works with the Community Services Teams at Vanier Children’s Services, providing assessment and consultation services to children and their families.
