Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is characterized by an excessive preoccupation with a part of one’s face or body, that appears defective, misshapen, or grossly out of proportion. Individuals often experience shame associated with the perceived defect, leading to compulsive behaviours that include checking, comparing, camouflaging, avoiding and sometimes seeking cosmetic procedures. The preoccupation itself is excessive and can cause difficulties in relationships, at work, and in day to day functioning.
Fortunately, there is hope, as there is effective treatment for this body image problem. Our clinicians are trained to identify and treat BDD. Consider getting in touch with us for a complete evaluation
